Point-In-Time Count Of Homeless Persons
The purpose of a Point-In-Time survey is to afford the community a snapshot
of people experiencing homelessness. The 2007 Point-In-Time survey was
conducted over a 24-hour time frame on January 23rd, and January 24th.

Needs Assessment
Volume 1: Environmental Scan
The Environmental Scan should help to get a
picture of the number of characteristics and the needs of the community
based on these already collected data. The
report consists of six subsections: Demographics,
Education, Economic Outlook, Crime, Housing and Life
Cycle.

Volume
2: Needs Survey & Priority Study
The Needs Survey gathers data from three sources:
• A random sample of
residents of Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties
• Community leaders --
elected and/or appointed government officials and
presidents/chief executive officers from the area's largest businesses
• Chief
executive officers of social services agencies through the area
The Priority Study
is a result of the reviewing needs
assessment data to establish priorities for the
allocation of United Way resources. This
study will assist the United Way Board of
Directors and various United Way committees in awareness, planning, funding,
coordination and general provision of services to the community.

Overview of Homelessness in
Wichita/Sedgwick County - 2006 Report
A collaboration between:
City of Wichita, Sedgwick County
and United Way of the Plains. The primary
objectives of this overview is to:
• Identify terminology used to provide homeless
services.
• Describe the current homeless situation in our
community, including need.
• Identify best practices/promising
practices models.

Children’s Mental Health
Study (2002 - 2004) This research study, conducted by
United Way of the Plains, had as its purpose to look at what
children's mental health services are available in
Sedgwick County and to identify gaps or
overlaps in services.
